Amigurumi rhinoceros Rapti in cooperation with Diana's Crochet Works
The amigurumi rhino Rapti was created in collaboration with the lovely Diana. We'll tell you how the designer came up with the idea, how long she's been crocheting, and where you can find her patterns.
Every year we design the green women's power sock, and this year Claudia from the knitting design team came up with an exciting pattern that is also a lot of fun to knit.
Dear Diana, on Instagram people know you as "dianas_haekelwerke". What does your account name mean?
My account name consists of my first name Diana, and "haekelwerke" serves as a small signpost so people immediately know that it is about crochet products.
What can people expect from your account, what is it about?
At first, my account mainly served as a selling point for my crocheted pieces, which I make to customer request. Over time, my own crocheted animals and the matching crochet patterns emerged from this, and my focus shifted to designing amigurumi crochet patterns. Otherwise, I show everything in my feed that jumps off my needle.
Tell us a little about yourself: who is behind @dianas_haekelwerke?
My name is Diana, as you can already tell from my profile name. I am 28 years young and live in the beautiful Palatinate. I am happily married and the mother of a son. My very favourite hobby, who could guess, is of course designing and therefore crocheting amigurumi. Otherwise, I love being out in nature at the most beautiful viewpoints in the Palatinate Forest.
How did you get into crochet, and how long have you been crocheting?
As a little girl, I already gained insights into the world of crochet and knitting through my two great-grandmothers. During my pregnancy, I then had the idea of crocheting a little bear for my son. I finally learned this wonderful craft in 2017 through YouTube videos.
Where do you gather inspiration for your amigurumi?
I gather a lot of inspiration on Pinterest. But actually, I have always been a very creative person; my head is full of ideas. Most of the time, it is simply little things in everyday life that trigger an idea in my head.
How did you come up with the idea for the rhino, and how did you create the pattern?
At first, I wanted to design a little donkey. While browsing Pinterest and Instagram, I came across a rhino and immediately noticed that hardly any rhinos appeared in my Instagram feed. So it quickly became clear to me that it would be a rhino instead of a donkey. The easiest way for me is to first draw a small sketch, then simply start crocheting and of course write everything down. Afterwards I crochet the little animal again, checking the individual steps and taking photos. All patterns are then crocheted and checked by test crocheters. Finally, the pattern is published in my shop.
