Macrame – the trend from the Orient

The be-all and end-all of macrame art is, of course, the macrame cord. Your whole project depends on it. To help your knotted work turn out beautifully, we developed Gründl Macramé yarn for you. The 2-ply twisted macrame rope consists of 2 x 30 threads. The large number of twisted threads creates beautiful, dense macrame feathers. The 3 mm cord made from recycled cotton and tear-resistant polyester is easy to work with and ideal for beginners. Our yarn is wound onto a firm, stable spool, making it easy to unwind and measure the lengths you need without the yarn tangling.

In addition to macrame yarn, you need a pair of scissors and a tape measure for your knotting project. Experienced makers can also easily measure the length of individual macrame strands with their arm span. You have probably noticed it in one project or another: many macrame artworks are made not only from yarn, but are also decorated with extra decorative elements. Here you can let your imagination run free: woven-in wooden beads, rings, feathers or collected branches make plant hangers, wall hangings and dreamcatchers truly unique.

For our macrame dreamcatcher, you need macrame rope about 60 m long. For the plant hanger with beads, we recommend a total of 80 m of yarn. For a plant hanger without wooden beads, you need slightly less yarn, a total of 55 m, and for a wall hanging 90 m. One spool of macrame yarn contains 95 m of rope, enough to knot most projects.

The insider tip for knotting larger macrame projects is: a clothes rail. It may sound funny, but it works wonders. You can attach your knotted pieces to the rail and work your way step by step to the finished result. Wall hangings also look especially beautiful on wooden rings or sticks. Smaller macrame pieces can also be attached to a clipboard, for example. The simplest fastening trick is a regular clothes hanger, which you can hook onto a chair, for instance.

Classic macrame projects include plant hangers that give your urban jungle by the living-room windows a fresh new stage. You can also simply hang a fruit bowl and use it as a decorative element in the kitchen at the same time. Macrame wall hangings are another real highlight and can be decorated with wooden beads and feathers in any way you like. Macrame wall hangings are currently especially popular as photo backdrops at weddings, but smaller projects can also be made with different rope thicknesses: how about a simple coaster, a feather keychain, a beautiful dreamcatcher for a child's room or a quick and easy rainbow?
