We are often asked how the color gradient behaves in larger knitting projects to create a Fair Isle pattern. The formation of the Fair Isle pattern depends not only on the number of stitches but also on the stitch pattern itself and how tightly or loosely you work. The pattern is most effective when worked in stockinette stitch and when using our specified gauge. We recommend using our sample patterns as a guide; you can download the instructions for free. With fewer stitches, the pattern repeat will generally be wider, and with more stitches, narrower. It's generally advisable to do a test stitch with your planned number of stitches beforehand.
