Lace pattern & drop stitches – what's the difference?

• Lace pattern: created by yarn overs (small "holes") and stitches knitted together – looks delicate and decorative.
• Drop stitch effect: here, yarn overs are dropped in the return row and the stitches are elongated – this gives the scarf this airy, flowing structure with extra lightness.
