Together against loneliness: A postcard that brings a smile

With Gründl Prickelkarten, together against loneliness – give joy with heartfelt mail during the Christmas season

Every year we design the green women's power sock, and this year Claudia from the knitting design team came up with an exciting pattern that is also a lot of fun to knit.

What is Post mit Herz?

"Post mit Herz" is a social organisation committed to making sure lonely people do not feel forgotten, bringing them joy and encouragement. To make this possible, "Post mit Herz" connects volunteer card writers with social institutions so that warm-hearted words can be passed directly on to lonely people.

The mission: every lonely person should receive loving, heart-warming mail.

How many cards have already been sent?

A total of 61,714 postcards have already been sent by 19,654 dedicated writers to 367 social institutions. Incredibly impressive and heart-warming. And this is exactly where we at Gründl want to contribute, so that the number of people receiving a gift becomes even higher. Because the moment when we all put a smile on each other's faces is truly priceless.

How you can take part

Of course, you will need our pricking card. You will receive it free of charge with your Gründl order between 15.11 and 25.12.

To prick and embroider your card, prepare yarns, threads or wool scraps in your favourite colour, along with a needle, scissors and craft glue. In the next steps you will also need a pen, an envelope and a stamp. Effect yarns with glitter look especially beautiful with our Christmas motif. You can also decorate your Christmas tree with pompoms, glitter stars or rhinestones.

1. Prick the card

Pricking simply means piercing. So grab a pointed object or a needle and prick along the pre-printed dots on your card. It works best if you place the card on a soft surface, such as felt. Alternatively, you can embroider your card directly with a needle and yarn, without perforating the paper beforehand. Then pull your thread through hole by hole until the perforated pattern becomes a beautiful textile line. Which yarn or thread you use is entirely up to you. It just should not be too thick, otherwise threading it through will be difficult. Wool scraps are also perfect for this.

2. Write personal words

Now all that is missing is your heartfelt message that you would like to send to someone dear at Christmas. Write a few warm words to give courage and bring a smile to their face.

3. Add the finishing touches

To hide the less attractive back full of threads, fold the card in the middle along the thin dotted line and glue the two sides together. The instructions disappear inside, leaving only your embroidered front motif and your kind words visible.

4. Send the card

To receive the recipient address of a social institution, please register from 01.12.2021 at www.postmitherz.org. The address of a social organisation will then be sent to you by email. Add the address and stamp, then off it goes into the letterbox.

We would like to further support this campaign and will therefore donate for every green* sock yarn ordered from the Gründl online shop between February 4th and March 4th, 2025. 100% of the proceeds will go to the German Association for Gynecological Cancers (Verein für Gynäkologische Krebserkrankungen Deutschland e.V.).
