Handmade traditional clothing
Every year we design the green women's power sock, and this year Claudia from the knitting design team came up with an exciting pattern that is also a lot of fun to knit.
Essential, but a question of style
What would a traditional outfit be without a cozy knitted cardigan? Our two models made from Gründl Tiroler Landwolle show two very different looks. The gray cardigan matches any dirndl and radiates pure coziness. Its varied stitch pattern with cable and moss-stitch sections gives it beautiful structure and makes it a real eye-catcher, ideal for fans of texture. It completes a wedding outfit and keeps you wonderfully warm on the way home from the folk festival. It also looks lovely with jeans. The brown cardigan feels a little more rustic and is ideal if you like an authentic look. It pairs perfectly with feminine leather trousers or simply with jeans and a white or traditional checked blouse. You knit it easily in garter stitch, with knit stitches on both right and wrong rows, which makes it especially suitable for beginners. Both designs benefit from the high virgin wool content of 60%, which provides warmth and the typical character of a traditional cardigan.
A bag is a must
A matching bag is, of course, part of a traditional outfit too. The heart-shaped bag made from Gründl Filzwolle uni is especially charming. Knitted felting gives it a soft, stable shape. It is a lovely eye-catcher and perfect for safely storing your phone, keys, money and a little make-up. The small pouch made from Gründl Tiroler Landwolle, by contrast, is a classic companion: simple, understated and full of character. Whether for the folk festival or your next walk through the village, this timeless pouch beautifully completes your outfit.
Warm feet - socks for traditional-style fans
No warm feet, no fun. Our cozy soft socks made from Gründl Hot Socks pearl uni are true luxury pieces with merino wool and cashmere. They are ideal for long walks, dancing the night away in traditional shoes or keeping your feet warm at autumn festivals.
For creative knitters, socks made from Gründl Hot Socks uni 50 are perfect. They are hard-wearing and allow countless color combinations. Use them to create traditional patterns, such as classic cable socks, with modern highlights. Add small accents with contrasting toes or heels and make socks that are not only practical but real eye-catchers.
The cable-knit cardigan for cozy hours
The cream cable cardigan made from Gründl Living accompanies you on cozy evenings at home as well as on cool autumn days outside. With its elaborate cable pattern, it looks elegant and cozy at the same time. It is the perfect companion for quiet hours on the sofa and as a warm layer over everyday clothing or a traditional dress. The yarn is wonderful to work with and its light melange effect creates a modern, soft finish.
Tips for combining traditional fashion for everyday wear
- 1. Combine your traditional cardigan with jeans or simple fabric trousers too, so the look feels fresh and not too formal.
- 2. Traditional shoes are not a must: choose low shoes, loafers, ballet flats or sneakers instead to make the look suitable for everyday wear without losing authenticity.
- 3. Small bags like our pouch made from Tiroler Landwolle add traditional charm without looking overloaded or too classic. Simply combine jeans and a white or checked blouse, then use the bag as a highlight.
Hand-knitted traditional fashion: not only beautiful, but eco-conscious and sustainable
Sustainability matters more than ever today, especially in clothing. Hand-knitted traditional fashion offers important advantages that make it a conscious and long-lasting choice.
Long-lasting quality
Unlike many fast-fashion garments, traditional clothing and accessories are made from high-quality yarns that are especially robust and hard-wearing. Our Tiroler Landwolle, for example, contains a high proportion of pure virgin wool. This wool ensures that cardigans, bags or socks are wonderfully warm and cozy while keeping their shape and color for years. Thanks to the polyacrylic content, they remain dimensionally stable, easy-care and washable. That means your hand-knitted pieces stay with you for a long time without wearing out quickly or losing their charm, reducing the need to buy new items and saving resources.
Short transport routes and fair production
Many of our yarns come from European regions, including Austria, Italy and Germany, where traditional craftsmanship is valued. This has several advantages: transport routes are much shorter than for many mass-produced goods from overseas, reducing CO2 emissions, and you can rely on fair working conditions.
Reusability and recycling potential
When you knit or crochet your outfit yourself, leftover yarn is almost inevitable. These leftovers can be wonderfully reused for small decorations, cushions or accessories. No yarn is wasted, and you can create upcycling ideas that make your traditional fashion even more personal.
Traditional garment care made easy - how to care for wool properly
- Less is more
Virgin wool rarely needs a full wash; airing it outside is often enough.
- Use only a wool wash cycle
If the traditional cardigan does get dirty, always wash it on the wool program at max. 30°C, ideally cold, and dry it flat whenever possible so it keeps its shape.
- No fabric softener
Avoiding fabric softener protects the fibers and wool grease, preserving the natural resistance to creasing and dirt.
- Remove pilling gently
Small bobbles on cardigans or bags can be removed with a lint roller or wool shaver without damaging the structure.
