What exactly is Pride Month? And when is Pride Month?

Pride Month takes place every year in June, with the mission of celebrating the visibility and pride of the LGBTQIA+ community, fighting for equality and acceptance, and drawing attention to the discrimination and inequality that unfortunately still exist. It is an opportunity for people to gather, show their support, connect and strengthen one another.
LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation of the English words Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual/Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual. In other words, it stands for all genders, gender identities and sexual orientations that differ from binary and heterosexual norms.
With that in mind: let us celebrate Pride Month, strengthen the LGBTQIA+ community and support one another. Happy Pride Month!

Why is Pride Month in June?

Pride Month takes place every June to commemorate the Stonewall uprising, which happened in New York City in June 1969. The events that led to this uprising were an important turning point in LGBTQIA+ history and marked the beginning of the modern LGBTQIA+ movement.

What does Pride Month mean in German?

Pride Month literally translates as "month of pride". In Germany, Pride Month is often also referred to as "LGBTQIA+ Pride Month" or simply "Pride Month".

Why rainbow Pride?

The rainbow is a well-known symbol of Pride Month and the LGBTQIA+ community, because it stands for the diversity and beauty of the LGBTQIA+ community and also symbolizes the wish for unity and solidarity. It is a symbol of hope that embodies the vision of a world without discrimination and inequality for all people.

What do the colors of the rainbow stand for?

Each color of the rainbow has a special meaning.

  • Red stands for life.
  • Orange for healing.
  • Yellow for the sun.
  • Green for nature.
  • Blue for harmony.
  • Violet for spirit.

Together they form the rainbow and represent the different genders, gender identities and sexual orientations of the LGBTQIA+ community that differ from binary and heterosexual norms.

How can the rainbow be shown off?

The rainbow symbol is often used on flags, clothing and other objects to stand up for the rights and visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community.
That is exactly why we at Gruendl celebrate diversity with many handmade knitting and crochet projects in rainbow colors. From rainbow clothing and Pride decor to colorful accessories in Pride colors: find your personal creative project in rainbow colors and make a statement for more respect and tolerance in our society.
Because we all have the right to live our identity and sexuality, regardless of personal characteristics such as gender, skin color, origin or age.
