Winter knitting fashion - knitting patterns and trends

Every year we design the green women's power sock, and this year Claudia from the knitting design team came up with an exciting pattern that is also a lot of fun to knit.

Instructions for the Women's Power Sock 2025

Knitted winter sweater

If hand-knitted sweaters do not create a feeling of cosiness and slowing down, what does? Colourful, plain, striped or with exciting textured patterns: cosy sweaters are the must-have of the cool season. Quickly pulled on, they bring warmth to every outfit. And combined with a classic blouse, every handmade sweater is definitely office-ready.

Knitted turtleneck sweater

Turtleneck sweaters are simply wonderful in winter. How about our cosy-soft chenille sweater made from the chenille yarn Funny uni? This turtleneck sweater with ribbed cuffs and knot edge stitches is perfect for the cold season.

Knitted oversized sweater

Are you looking for an oversized sweater with a shorter cut, stand-up collar and rolled edge? Its special straight and therefore relaxed shape comes from the English word boxy, meaning a box-shaped knitted boxy sweater made from the voluminous Gründl yarn Shetland. This winter sweater with relief pattern and ribbed sleeves is a unique piece and the ideal gift idea for a very special person. The fluffy Gründl Shetland wool naturally plays a major role in the overall work of art: two pearl-like twisted roving strands create a particularly voluminous sweater. With a 20 percent wool blend, the yarn not only feels wonderfully soft but also scores with its warming character.

Sweater with knitted pattern

Attention all colour-gradient fans: the fine roving yarn Pacific Lace delights with its beautiful shades. Soft flowing transitions and colours that harmonise wonderfully with one another. What can it become? An lace-pattern sweater with matching headband. A special sweater with a colour gradient from the yarn.
Voluminous lace-pattern sweaters are a highlight every winter. Our lace-pattern sweater with block stripes made from the two-ply roving yarn Alaska uni not only looks really good, the winter sweater also keeps you wonderfully warm thanks to its 20 percent wool content. Look forward to your DIY sweater, which can be knitted quickly and easily with large needles.

Cosy sweater with boat neckline

Are you looking for a very special knitting yarn? Our cosy sweater with boat neckline, knitted from the popular colour-gradient yarn Mohana with 10% mohair, is especially snug in winter. It seduces us not only with its soft and supple feel, but also wraps us around its finger with wonderful stripes. And they come straight from the ball, with no knotting and no colour changes. Wonderful. It is also hard-wearing and easy-care, our knitted winter sweater. And who is behind these wonderful properties? Our knitting yarn Mohana. This soft wool is known for its clever material composition, soft touch and unmistakable patterning.

Knitted sweater with relief pattern

Pure texture. Doesn't this knitted sweater with relief pattern look wonderful? All the highs and lows created by the pattern give the knitted piece a unique three-dimensional effect. Contrasting cuffs draw special attention to this women's knitted sweater. And that is not all: the winter yarn a href="https://www.gruendl.com/sylt/c4735-09">Sylt used for it lives up to its name. With a 20% wool blend, this voluminous yarn impresses with its soft feel and quick knitting progress using large needles. For knitting and crochet projects with fascinating shape stability and easy-care properties.

Raglan sweater or knitted dress?

When it can be a little longer, we love our raglan sweater as a warming knitted dress. A timeless fashion classic that can be styled both chic and cosy. Knitted from our popular Shetland yarn, it gives you warm moments and keeps the cold away. Thanks to its wool blend, the yarn can store plenty of warmth. Look forward to a cosy-soft knitted piece that will never go out of fashion.
Ready for a special material feature? Sustainable and wonderfully warming at the same time: that is the motto of this women's winter sweater made from the pure wool yarn Ecolana. The organic virgin wool comes from controlled organic animal husbandry. And that is not all: our environmentally friendly oversize sweater shines in a wonderful Norwegian pattern. You will see: you will not take this handmade sweater off again any time soon. After all, what more could you want than a cosy-soft knitted sweater with a Norwegian pattern?

Knitted half-brioche sweater made from merino wool

Next up: pure virgin wool. Pure Italian merino wool. We have been fans of this exquisite knitted sweater from the very beginning. Because when fine materials are combined with aesthetic patterning, the result is dreamy. The half-brioche sweater made from our Gründl merino wool Merino Pure is special through and through. Definitely worth making. PS: the pure merino wool is easy to knit and glides smoothly over the needles.

Hand-knitted cardigans

Cardigan, coat, traditional jacket - whatever you call it. Alongside cosy-soft knitted sweaters for women and men, DIY cardigans are an absolute winter essential. Are you ready for our free cardigan knitting patterns?
Sometimes less is more. This is especially clear with our cardigan made from the soft roving yarn Alaska uni. Knitted in stocking stitch, this women's garment can be combined beautifully with many looks. Thanks to the wool content in the yarn, you can look forward to warming winter fashion. Our Gründl wool is available in 13 harmonious, warm shades that combine beautifully with one another. Your creativity has no limits. How about cuffs in contrasting colours? Or sleeves in a different colour?
If you have already had your eye on the cosy half-brioche sweater, this cardigan is sure to touch your heart too. This cardigan was also knitted in half-brioche. The all-round yarn Pretty, combined with the stitch pattern, creates a compact stitch structure that warms beautifully. Another special feature is the yarn's excellent care properties. Thanks to its anti-pilling finish, you do not need to worry about small unattractive bobbles, because they simply fall off in the washing machine. Pretty nice, isn't it?

Hand-knitted winter scarves

They complete every outfit. They finish the look. And they also give you an extra dose of cosiness and comfort. Like a cuddly ribbon, they wrap around you. What are we talking about? Soft accessories for the neck. Welcome to Gründl's scarf paradise. Crocheted loops, knitted scarves or DIY shawls: are you ready for our favourite scarf knitting patterns and crochet inspirations? You can find the full collection here. Have fun browsing, knitting and crocheting.
Let's start with a colourful play of colours. When a total of seven colours are combined, it can only be our colour-blocking scarf. This knitted scarf is sure to bring colour and life to your outfits, and of course to grey winter days. It will keep you warm at the same time, because the yarn Happy uni delights with its wool-like character. Cuddly soft and easy-care at the same time, this colourful yarn simply has to make you happy.

Knitwear made from recycled yarn

Soft knitted accessories made from old plastic bottles? It works beautifully with the sustainable Gründl yarn Second Life. Our recycled wool does not feel like plastic at all. You will believe us at the latest when you hold the wool-like yarn in your hands and knit your own individual loop scarf from it. The half-brioche scarf upgrades every outfit and invites you to cuddle up. Quick to knit, this women's knitted accessory is sure to earn a permanent place in your winter wardrobe. Recycling can be this beautiful.

Wide knitted scarf with lace pattern

After the recycling loop scarf and the colour-blocking scarf comes our wide knitted scarf in a lace pattern. Fringes round off the textured pattern. Combined with the voluminous roving yarn Shetland, the knitted scarf invites you to cuddle up. Thanks to the yarn's wool blend and its generous width, the scarf can be wrapped beautifully around the neck and keeps you wonderfully warm.
Next up is a warming triangular shawl. A wonderful knitted piece with tassels and a very special shape. It can be wrapped around the neck like a scarf, draped over the shoulders like a poncho or used as a hood-like head covering. One shawl becomes three fashionable highlights. Perla color, our effect yarn with ondé effect, gives this accessory wonderful charm with both its unique pearl-like look and its play of colours. Unique, extraordinary and easy to fall in love with.

Knitted winter hats with pompoms

We love hats. As versatile and colourful as they can be, they keep you at least just as warm during the cold winter months. Hats with earflaps, crocheted women's hats, knitted men's hats, plain beanies or striped headwear: you can find our favourite hat inspirations and the matching free patterns in our additional blog article about hand-knitted winter hats.

Knitted slipovers with colour gradient

A hand-knitted slipover: the it-piece and fashion trend of 2021. This winter garment can be worn beautifully over a white blouse. We share our two favourite free slipover knitting patterns for warming looks.
Let's start with our striped slipover. What looks like magic to many is what we lovingly call bobble yarn Lolly Pop. Without any colour changes or knotting, stripes in beautifully harmonious shades appear while you knit. Not only soft but also incredibly warm, this voluminous yarn keeps you cosy with its wool-like character. Conclusion: definitely knit it. The result will amaze you.
Next come magical knitting tricks and our slipover in Norwegian style made from the similarly named yarn Norwegia. This yarn creates a unique Norwegian pattern straight from the ball thanks to a clever long-repeat print. No complicated or time-consuming colour changes. Nothing stands in the way of an outfit with Nordic charm. Once you start knitting, you will hardly be able to stop, because there are few things more beautiful than watching a unique pattern appear row by row. Try it out; we look forward to your personal feedback.
