Whether knitted in an intricate openwork pattern, where yarn overs and knitting stitches together create a wonderful effect of small and large holes in the knitted piece, or knitted using the wonderful lace knitting technique – lace patterns enchant every knitted piece with their very special look.
But admittedly: lace patterns make a very complex impression. Have you ever dared to try a lace pattern? Or have you been put off by it?
In this video, we want to take the complexity out of this topic and clearly show you how to easily knit lace patterns.

How does a lace pattern work?

To knit a lace pattern, you need yarn overs and at the same time, stitches are knitted together.
A hole can be one, two, or more stitches wide. For small holes, one yarn over is enough – if you want to create larger holes, you need two or more yarn overs.

So, if you have reduced three stitches to one, as in our second example, you need two yarn overs to balance your stitch count.
It's important to ensure a consistent stitch count so that the width of your knitted piece always remains the same.

What influence does the yarn have when knitting lace patterns?
