What do I need to make tassels?

To make the tassels yourself, it's best to have a cardboard template ready. To do this, cut a thick piece of cardboard to the desired length that your tassels should reach. Alternatively, you can also use a tape measure to measure the thread length for your tassels. You will also need a blunt needle and scissors to easily make your own tassels.

How do I make my own tassels?

Once you have decided on the length your tassel should be and have a cardboard template of the desired size in front of you, you can get started.

To attach the tassel to your knitted item later, we first start with a thread approx. 30 cm long. Place it horizontally and centrally on the top edge of the template.

Winding tassels

Now it's time to wind: Wrap your yarn vertically around the template and the fastening thread until you have reached the desired volume for your tassel. The more often the thread is wrapped around the cardboard, the denser the tassel will be in the end. Make sure that the horizontal thread is not wrapped in.

Securing threads

Desired volume reached? Then secure the threads at the top end by making a double knot in the horizontal thread.

Cutting threads

After that, you can cut the threads along the bottom end of the template and thus open the tassel.

Tying off the tassel

Home stretch. To give your tassel its typical look and to secure the threads, the thread is now re-attached. By wrapping it a few times horizontally around the upper part of the tassel, a small head is formed.
