→ stitches are alternately slipped with a yarn over and knitted with the yarn over in the next row

Full Brioche Stitch Step-by-Step

the 1st stitch is a purl stitch; slip it purlwise with a yarn over. Knit the following knit stitch. The next stitch is again a purl stitch; slip it purlwise with a yarn over. Knit the following knit stitch, and so on. End with a purl stitch, which is slipped purlwise with a yarn over.

after the selvedge stitch, there's a knit stitch with the yarn over (strand) from the previous row. Now knit the stitch and its yarn over together.
