Green Sock Campaign: Doing good with women's power socks

The colour green stands for healing, recovery and regeneration. Green creates a powerful calm. We associate green with both contentment and hope.

That is exactly why the Green Sock campaign exists. Because especially in difficult times, this is what you wish for most. Green socks for a dose of hope, to leave a situation full of worries and fears behind as quickly as possible. In the Gründl online shop, you will find plenty of green wool for knitting socks.

The Green Sock campaign aims to draw attention to the serious illness ovarian cancer and to give a pair of green socks to women with gynaecological oncological diseases throughout Germany through hospitals and competence centres, during chemotherapy or inpatient stays.
Below you will find all important information and the exact process of this donation initiative. Free sock patterns for download and an overview of green sock yarns from Gründl are also waiting for you.

The concept is as simple as it is brilliant. Use your favourite hobby for a good cause and put together your encouragement set in just 4 steps:

Knit – write a card – print the label – send it

Knit green socks, donate them and do good. To give courage and confidence to as many affected people as possible in their precarious life situations, the association Gynäkologische Krebserkrankungen Deutschland e.V. is looking all year round for social knitters. Light green or dark green, moss green or May green: all socks within the green colour spectrum are warmly welcome. The pattern and texture of the socks can also be freely designed. Plain, striped or dotted: the most important thing is that the green socks are knitted with lots of love. Every month there is a new sock pattern presented on the Instagram account @aktion_gruene_socke. This February, we designed our third free knitting pattern for women-power socks especially for the Green Sock campaign.

Once the socks are finished, a few kind lines may gladly be written and added. After all, what could be more beautiful in a difficult life situation than receiving motivating and empathetic words?

Packed in a beautiful envelope or hidden directly in the sock, it is entirely up to you.

If words are missing but you would still like to include a card, here are a few suggestions.

The warehouse of Recklinghäuser Werkstätten gGmbH will reopen its doors shortly and is looking forward to receiving your lovingly knitted socks.

Here is a look back at the previous designs and their special features:

The great enthusiasm for the February sock 2024 made from our super-soft and easy-care Hot Socks Merino quality inspired us last year to design another women-power sock from this yarn. The result is a beautiful two-colour pair of socks with pearl pattern. You can choose according to your taste whether you prefer the light or the dark shade of green as the base colour.

The latest model stands out with a lively slip-stitch pattern knitted from Hot Socks Madena yarn. This yarn combines durability with a pleasant feel and stylishly rounds off our collection for the Frauenpower socks.

Anyone who loves soft color transitions will love the Italian sock yarn Gründl Hot Socks Malcesine. It impresses with its flowing ombre effect: a rich green gradually changes into a darker green, which then turns into a mottled green shade - perfect for atmospheric, lively socks.

Just like the northern Italian city of the same name, Gründl Hot Socks Como yarn delights with its varied color palette. This 4-ply sock yarn offers eight beautiful color patterns. The patterns appear directly from the ball, with no need to change yarn. With 75% virgin wool (superwash) and 25% polyamide, Como is not only warm and durable, but also especially skin-friendly thanks to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification.

Are you looking for a yarn for colorful striped socks? This year’s green sock yarn, Hot Socks Madena, impresses with beautiful color combinations and a charming stripe pattern that appears directly from the ball. Hot Socks Madena is made from 75% virgin wool (superwash) and 25% polyamide, is pleasantly soft, durable, and 100% made in Italy. Thanks to its superwash finish, the socks are machine washable. One ball is enough for one pair of socks up to shoe size 46.

Hot Socks Manerba enchants with varied shades of green in a charming Italian design. The yarn is perfect for patterns that appear while knitting without changing yarn. The Gründl Frauenpower socks 2023 were made from exactly this yarn.

Hot Socks Merino is a cuddly-soft yarn with 75% merino wool that stands out thanks to its temperature-regulating properties. The yarn looks just as delightful knitted in a multicolored striped look as it does combined with a gradient yarn. Two shades of green from this palette were used for the Frauenpower socks in 2024 and 2025.

The natural fir green of our solid-color Hot Socks Uni 50 looks wonderful both as a simply knitted sock and combined with patterned green gradient yarns. For example, you can highlight the toe or heel in a contrasting color while the foot and leg share a pattern.
