And then the big slipper felting adventure can begin with knitting needles, suitable felting wool, tennis balls and a washing machine. Yes, you heard correctly: felting is done at home in your own washing machine.
First step: make a gauge swatch. This gives you the best possible guarantee that your self-felted slippers will match your desired size after the felting process.
Then you can get started. The slippers are begun at the heel. Depending on your desired size, you start by casting on the required stitches and knitting a certain number of rows in stocking stitch. You can find the exact information in the respective instructions. Below you will find an example table for reading the size.

As soon as you have finished the heel, the stitches can be distributed evenly over four double-pointed needles. Now continue knitting in rounds, casting on two additional stitches at the front centre in the first round. From now on, knit round by round, following the information in the table. Then comes the toe. For this, knit the last two stitches of each needle together in every round and repeat this step until only two stitches remain on each needle. Pull these together with the working yarn and sew in the thread. Now your felt slippers can be finished. Close the back seam, meaning the cast-on edge, of the slippers as flat as possible with felting wool.
Then the felting can begin. Put your felt slippers into the washing machine together with three tennis balls. At 40°C in a coloured wash programme lasting around two hours, with a spin speed of 800 - 1000 rpm, the natural scales of the pure wool interlock. Make sure not to select a short wash or eco programme. We recommend using a little liquid detergent, as this has the advantage that no small grain-like residues can form. It is important that the detergent is free from optical brighteners and built-in fabric softening care. You should also avoid fabric softener.

As soon as the button on your washing machine is pressed, the felting process for your slippers begins. We recommend taking your felted unique pieces out of the machine as soon as possible after washing, as this prevents unattractive creases from forming.
Now it is time to bring your finished felted pieces into shape and let them dry. To achieve the best shape for your felted knitted or crocheted pieces, we recommend putting on your self-felted slippers. Slip into your still-damp felt slippers after the felting process, because while you wear them the shoes adapt to your feet. Now you can immediately tell which is the right and which is the left shoe. Then let your pieces dry thoroughly.

Small mistakes or uneven stitches? Yesterday's news. After the felting process, uneven spots in your felt shoes disappear as if by magic. That is why felting projects are wonderfully suitable for all knitting and crochet beginners.
And that is not all: the stitches and rows of your felted slippers are so firmly connected that no runs can occur after felting. For long-lasting slippers that enchant you with their unique durability and unbeatable heat retention.

Yippee. As soon as you are holding your felted shoes in your hands, it is time for the final step: decorating your slippers.
