We've produced a total of 13 videos in which we answer all your questions about knitting. From choosing the perfect yarn for beginners and needles, to reading and understanding a yarn label and knitting pattern, to the basics of knitting, we explain everything important from gauge swatch, cast-on and correct yarn tension so that you end up holding your own knitted scarf in your hands. And then you can get started: Using a striped scarf, we explain how to knit your personal accessory in garter stitch. We accompany you row by row. Why we launched the Gründl Knitting School

The right yarn for your first scarf

As a beginner knitter, we recommend a linear yarn with a tight twist. This has the advantage that you don't accidentally prick the yarn with the knitting needle and split it. In addition, thicker yarns with a needle size of 7 - 8mm are suitable for quick knitting success. With a thicker yarn, you can see the stitches better. It's best not to choose white or black yarn for your very first project, as the stitches are not as clearly visible. We particularly recommend our Sylt yarn. This voluminous yarn can be knitted excellently with needles size 7 - 8 mm. The blended yarn with 20% wool and 80% polyacrylic not only offers the best conditions for a durable and warm scarf – its tight twist also results in a great stitch definition. The OEKO-TEX® certified yarn is also tested for harmful substances and is therefore skin-friendly. And have you already discovered the diverse color palette? From light to medium to dark tones – the wonderful Gründl yarn shines in many shades.

The right knitting needle for your scarf

As a beginner knitter, we recommend our circular knitting needle with a cable length of 80 cm (in any material you prefer. In our videos, we use long straight needles so you can see the stitches better. It's important that you feel comfortable and that the needles fit well in your hands. The bamboo needles feel great, the stitches glide smoothly off the needles – a clear recommendation from us.

In this video, we're focusing on the correct yarn holding technique for knitting and giving you tips on how to maintain yarn tension while knitting.

8. Knitting knit stitches

Now that we've cast on the stitches, we're really getting into the knitting. We'll show you how to knit knit stitches.

9. Changing rows and selvedge stitch (garter stitch selvedge)

The first row is knitted, but what happens next? We show you in this video.

10. Color and yarn changes

You've already successfully knitted a few rows, now we'll show you how to add some color to your scarf. Together we'll change the color and show you how it's done in the following video.

11. Color and yarn changes for narrow stripes

Now we're making your scarf even more colorful, because if you only want to knit narrow stripes in a different color, there's a special trick (without cutting the yarn and without having to weave in too many ends). We'll show you exactly that in this video.

12. Binding off and weaving in ends

Your scarf is almost finished, you've reached the last row of your scarf, together we'll now bind off the stitches and show you how to weave in the ends correctly.

13. Fringes

Your scarf is now finished! Congratulations! If you like, you can now decorate it with fringes. You can find out how to do that in the video.
