And then we can get started: Using a striped scarf, we explain how you can knit your personal accessory in garter stitch. We accompany you row by row. The right yarn for your first scarf

As a knitting beginner, we recommend a linear yarn with a tight twist. This has the advantage that you won't accidentally pierce the yarn with the knitting needle and split it. In addition, thicker yarns with a needle size of 7 - 8 mm are suitable for quick knitting success. With a thicker yarn, you can see the stitches better. It's best not to choose white or black yarn for your very first project, as the stitches are not as easily visible. We can particularly recommend our Sylt yarn. This voluminous yarn is excellent for knitting with needles of size 7 - 8 mm. The blended yarn with 20% wool and 80% polyacrylic not only provides the best conditions for a durable and warm scarf – its tight twist also creates a great stitch pattern. The OEKO-TEX® certified yarn is also tested for harmful substances and is therefore skin-friendly. And have you discovered the diverse colour palette? From light to medium to dark shades – the wonderful Gründl yarn radiates in many nuances.

The right knitting needle for your scarf

As a beginner knitter, we recommend our circular knitting needle with a cable length of 80 cm (in a material of your choice. In our videos, we use long straight needles so that you can see the stitches better. It is important that you feel comfortable with them and that the needles fit well in your hands. The bamboo needles feel great, the stitches glide smoothly off the needles, a clear recommendation from us.

Now that we've cast on the stitches, it's time to really start knitting. We'll show you how to knit knit stitches.

9. Changing rows and selvage stitch (garter stitch selvage)

The first row is knitted, but what's next? We show you in this video.

10. Colour and yarn change

You've already successfully knitted a few rows, now we'll show you how to add some colour to your scarf. Together, we'll change the colour and show you how in the following video.

11. Colour and yarn change for narrow stripes

Now we'll make your scarf even more colourful, because if you only want to knit narrow stripes in another colour, there's a special trick (without cutting the yarn and without having to weave in too many ends). That's exactly what we show you in this video.

12. Binding off stitches and weaving in ends

Your scarf is almost finished, you've reached the last row of your scarf, together we will now bind off the stitches and show you how to correctly weave in the ends.

13. Fringes
